In 1998, New Mexico Legislature created the Statuary Hall Commission, and its members were appointed by the Governor.  This Commission is responsible for directing the process of commissioning and placing a second statue, representing New Mexico, in the National Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol Complex in Washington D.C.

The current members of the Commission are:

     Governor's Special Assistant for Cabinet Affairs and to the Deputy Chief of Staff

The commission is assisted by the New Mexico Department  of Cultural Affairs and the Department of Indian Affairs.
